OUTSPOKEN Carlton heavyweight John Elliott has urged Hawthorn to gag Jeff Kennett, labelling the former president a "has been".
Kennett was forced to apologise last week after calling for Hawks' coach Alastair Clarkson's head at the end of the season.
Clarkson quite tactfully watered down the criticism going as far as to say Kennett could be right if the Hawks failed to win a premiership in the next 2-3 years.
But Elliott today fuelled the spat describing Kennett as "senile" and calling on Hawthorn president Andrew Newbold to stand up for Clarkson.
"If I were president of the Hawthorn Football Club today, I'd ban him (Kennett)," Elliott told 3AW.
"It will show the strength of the man (Newbold)... is he supporting the coach or is he supporting Jeff Kennett?
"I'd forget about Jeff Kennett, he's a has been."
Elliott said if he had a problem with Carlton's coach he would have a "quiet word" with the president.
"It's outrageous, you don't do that to the Hawthorn Football Club which he supposedly loves.
"He shouldn't be allowed in the president's lunch. They ought to evict him.
"If Clarkson ever talks to him again, I'll be very surprised."
