IT MAY be his 14th season, but skipper Jonathan Brown still carries the fate of the Brisbane Lions on his broad shoulders.
The Lions showed signs of a revival last season, winning 10 matches - including their last three - to offer hope of a return to the finals for the first time since 2009.
The return of Matthew Leuenberger from a serious Achilles injury will provide a huge boost to Brisbane's onball brigade.
He was one of the competition's top ruckmen in 2011 and will provide silver service to young guns Jack Redden, Daniel Rich and Tom Rockliff and former Demon Brent Moloney, who arrives to provide some much-needed clearance support for Simon Black.
The defence looks good, headed by quiet achiever and best-and-fairest winner Joel Patfull.
But the big questions is where will the goals come from?

Last year Brown led the Lions goalkicking with 47 and the next best was Daniel Merrett (26), who Michael Voss would prefer to use at the other end of the ground.
Aaron Cornelius provided some reason for optimism with five goals last weekend - but it was a NAB Cup game against GWS in Wagga, so Voss won't be getting too carried away.
To jump into finals calculations he needs the Lions to improve their record against sides above them on the ladder - last year they registered just two wins against top-12 teams - a successful return from Leuenberger - with back-up Ben Hudson now at Collingwood - and, yet again, a big year from Browny.
